Welcome! We are pleased that you have made Lake Forest College your academic home. Using the form below, you will be able to tell us your preferences for First-Year Studies (FIYS) courses from among the list below. Please tell us your preferences by May 21.
- Review the 22 course descriptions, in their entirety. There are some very interesting topics!
- Using the drop-down menu, tell us your preferences for six different courses. You will be assigned a place in ONE First-Year Studies course. Scroll down for a link to the form. Remember, these classes fulfill the First-Year Writing Requirement of the General Education Curriculum, and do not count for any specific major, so you should choose courses that interest you.
- Once you START filling out this form, you have 1 hour to complete it, otherwise your data will be lost. There is no limit as to how many times you complete the form, but the last one you submit will be the basis on which we assign you to a course.
(Please note: transfer students will not choose a First-Year Studies course)
What happens next:
The professor who teaches the First-Year Studies course to which you’ll be assigned will serve as your academic advisor. He or she will assist you in choosing other courses that will complete General Education requirements, to begin working toward your intended major, or help you explore other possibilities if you are still exploring your academic options. You will take a total of four courses in the fall semester. The FIYS course is ONE of FOUR courses you will take in the fall.
In early June, your First-Year Studies course professor, who is also your advisor, will contact you by email with information about the First-Year studies course you have been placed into and to start a conversation about your academic interests. You will also receive information about how to communicate your preferences for other courses for the fall.
NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED A USER NAME OR PASSWORD TO FILL OUT THE FORM, BUT YOU DO NEED YOUR STUDENT ID NUMBER.
